Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Casanova (released in the U.S. in 1929 by MGM as "Loves of Casanova" and by Universal as "Prince of Adventurers"), the 1927 Alexandre Volkoff French silent romantic biography melodrama (a fictionalized biography of the legendary lover, showing his trip to Russia where he romanced Catherine The Great, and his subsequent return to Italy) starring Ivan Mozzhukhin (billed as "Ivan Mosjoukine"; in the title role as Casanova), Suzanne Bianchetti (as Catherine the Great), Diana Karenne, Jenny Jugo, Rina De Liguoro, and Olga Day. Note that we have previously auctioned a rotogravure one-sheet from this movie that had the title "Loves of Casanova" and was distributed by MGM. Yet these lobby cards have the title "Prince of Adventurers" and has Universal as the distributor! We strongly suspect that there was a distribution deal made between the producers of the movie and Universal, and that it fell apart at the last minute, after posters (or at least these lobby cards!) were created, but before it made it to theaters, and that then a new deal was made with MGM (this would also explain why two years went by between the making of the movie and the U.S. release.) Condition: very good. The poster is linenbacked; prior to restoration the poster had separation, tears, tiny paper loss, and smudges on some foldlines and tiny paper loss at some crossfolds; there were small tears, creases, and smudges around the edges of the poster; the poster was well linenbacked and its basically minor flaws were minimized during the backing process, but they can still be seen from close up; Overall, the poster was in pretty nice condition prior to backing and looks quite nice now!
