eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5b109 SOLDIERS THREE TC 1951 Stewart Granger, Walter Pidgeon & Niven in unauthorized Gunga Din! Date Sold 4/2/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Rudyard Kipling's Soldiers Three, the 1951 Tay Garnett British-in-India military comedy ("Adventure, escapades, high-jinx, romance!"; "They're rough, tough and riotous!"; "Suggested by the Rudyard Kipling Stories") starring Stewart Granger ("His first picture since 'King Solomon's Mines'"), Walter Pidgeon, David Niven, Robert Newton, Cyril Cusack, Greta Gynt, and Frank Allenby. Note that this movie is based on Rudyard Kipling's "Gunga Din", and yet it has a completely different title, and "Gunga Din" is not mentioned in the advertising. Perhaps RKO Radio owned the rights to the title (they had made the classic 1939 version), and MGM could not use the title, although the story itself was likely in the public domain. I have not seen this movie, but apparently "Soldiers Three" was no "Gunga Din"! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. We are doing something in this set of auctions we rarely do! A couple of years ago, we were approached by a very long time collector, and he asked us if he could give us an entire auction of single lobby cards by himself. We agreed, and held that auction in 2017, and later that same year, a different collector sent us a different group of 999 lobby cards and we repeated the process. Now we have a third such "single owner" collection. This one was originally assembled in Australia, which is why some of the cards have either Australian paper snipes attached or Australian ratings stamps (but many do not have them). This collection originally contained 1,100 cards, and we auctioned 100 of them in our March Major Auction, and now we are auctioning the remaining 999 in THIS set of auctions, and after this auction, there will be no more cards to be offered. As will immediately be evident when you look at the cards, many of them are from titles where you almost never see any lobby cards, so this is a rare opportunity to acquire many cards that almost never are offered for sale or at auction! Condition: fair to good. The card was used in Australia and there is an Australian rating stenciled in one corner. There are pieces of masking tape on the back of the borders that have bled through to the front. There was surface paper loss in the top right blue background and someone touched it up with marker, but it is still very noticeable. See our super-sized images to get a good sense of the condition of this card. Learn More about condition grades
