An Original Vintage Movie Trade Ad (measures 9" x 12" [23 x 30 cm]; 4 pages) (Learn More) Check and Double Check, the 1930 Melville W. Brown (billed as "Mel Brown") Amos & Andy slapstick family relationship black African American-played-by-white-actors-in-blackface haunted house horror comedy ("Amos 'n' Andy on the screen! All Talking"; "Here they are! On the screen!"; "Their first all-talking motion picture"; the first and only movie adapted from the hit radio show, with the white voice actors playing their parts in blackface; while at a Mystic Knights of the Sea convention, Andy unluckily is chosen to spend the night in a haunted house) starring Freeman F. Gosden (as Amos), Charles J. Correll (as Andy), Irene Rich, Sue Carol, Ralf Harolde, Russ Powell (as Kingfish), and Roscoe Ates. Note that this was the only movie ever adapted from this extremely popular radio series, and RKO created a wonderful one-sheet for it. In 1951 to 1953, there was a very popular TV show, which starred black African American actors in the lead roles. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: From the 1920s on, studios would create elaborate trade ads, often in full color, and often using the finest artists of the day. They would run these ads in their studio yearbooks and exhibitor magazines, and they would also print those trade ads separately and mail them individually to theater owners, trying to get them to book that specific movie. Sometimes those books and magazines are separated and the ads, which now greatly resemble the individually printed trade ads, are sold individually. The trade ad offered here was removed from a yearbook or magazine. It can be framed and displayed (but many trade ads have different images on each side, so one must choose which side to display if it is framed!). Condition: good to very good. The two pages of the ad (removed from a magazine) were taped together from the reverse (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
