An Original Vintage Campaign Book (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 50 pages) (Learn More) Fox 1932-33, the 1932 campaign book ("The Greater New Fox 1932 - 1933 Announcement"; "Watch Fox This Year!") sent to theater owners to encourage them to show Fox movies. The book includes 56 pages with one and two-page spreads on Fox's upcoming movies, and unlike many campaign books of the era, Fox did lots of one-page and two-page spreads on their best stars. Some of the movies and stars advertised include Will Rogers in two movies, Clara Bow in Call Her Savage, Joan Bennett in three movies, What Price Glory, Cavalcade, Warner Baxter in three movies, El Brendel in Apartment House Love, Bitter Sweet by Noel Coward, Congorilla, Chandu the Magician, and many more! We have included images of the cover of the book and several of the two-page spreads (and we did not make a big effort to find the best ones!). Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Also note that, as was often the case with these campaign books, some of the movies advertised were either never made, had their titles changed before they were released, or were made with different casts than those announced in the campaign book (I do not have time to research the titles in this campaign book to see which had changed titles or were never made, but if anyone has more information about any of these, please e-mail us and we will post it here)! Note that studios almost always spent far more money preparing campaign books than they did preparing movie posters (often hiring very talented and well-known illustration artists), because campaign books directly benefited the studio in getting theaters to book the movies, whereas posters more benefited the theaters, rather than the studios (although of course, what was good for the theaters was ultimately good for the studios as well). Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned a softcover version of this campaign book that looks the same as this and has the same gold tape at the spine. It could certainly be that the studio made this in just a softcover version (or possibly both a hardcover and softcover version, but if so, we have never auctioned a hardcover version), or it could be that this is an example of the hardcover missing its covers, but another less likely possibility is that this was originally an exhibitor magazine that had this campaign book included in it, and that someone removed the campaign book portion from that magazine, and then put gold tape at the spine. But we think that is really remote, because how many people had access to gold tape? But because we have never had an exhibitor magazine with this included, we can't say for certain. Even if it was originally from an exhibitor magazine, which we highly doubt, it surely is identical to any standalone campaign book, because they were printed at the same time from the same plates. Condition: good to very good. There is staining on the cover, but otherwise, the campaign book is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
