An Unfolded circa 1960s French Poster (measures 31" x 45 3/4" [79 x 116 cm]) (Learn More)

La Motocyclette Werner, the early 1900s French advertising poster promoting the purchase of a "Motocyclette" from Werner Motors. The Werner brothers started to experiment with motorized bicycles in 1896 and are credited with the first use of the word "Motocyclette" in 1897. At first the brothers had limited success with mounting the engine to the front steering head of the bike, but in 1901 they came out with the New Werner which used a patented frame design in which the engine is mounted at the bottom of the frame (which became the standard motorcycle layout for the 20th century). Note that this poster features Auguste Jean-Baptiste Roubille art of several people enjoying a New Werner Motocyclette.
Artist: Auguste Jean-Baptiste Roubille
Important Added Info: Note that the original poster by Roubille was printed in the early 1900s. This particular poster, though, is much more white on the back than on the front and we feel it is likely from a later printing (likely in the 1960s but it could even be later). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has some smudges around the edges, light creases throughout and a tear a few tears at left (see our image).
