An Original Vintage Comic Book (measures 7" x 10 1/4" [18 x 26 cm]) (Learn More)

Whiz Comics was a monthly comic book anthology series published by Fawcett Comic from 1940 to 1953. Whiz Comics was best known for introducing Captain Marvel in its first issue, which was #2 (look it up if you want to know why there was no #1!), and depicted stories about other superheros such as Ibis the Invincible, Golden Arrow, and Dan Dare. In 1941, a year after this character was introduced, DC sued Whiz Comics on the basis that Captain Marvel was an imitation of Superman! It took 12 years for the lawsuit to finish, but in 1953, they were awarded $400,000, and Captain Marvel and Whiz Comics ceased publication, and the character was awarded to DC Comics, which revived it in the 1970s!
Important Added Info: Note that this comic has an "infinity cover", where the characters are shown reading the same comic book, which shows tinier characters reading the same comic, and which theoretically could go to infinity! Please note that we don't use a "comic guide" grading system, and OUR grading scale is completely different from standard comic book grading. Our "very good" is completely different from a comic book graded "very good". We provide images of the front cover, the back cover, the first and last interior two-page spreads, and the center spread of the comic book, which should allow you to get a sense of the condition of this comic book.

Condition: good to very good. The comic will be sent to the winning bidder in a Mylite sleeve with an acid-free backing board.
