Date Sold 12/16/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The League of Frightened Men, the 1937 Alfred E. Green detective mystery crime thriller ("Nero Wolfe can get away with murder - and make you like it!"; "The new Nero Wolfe mystery thriller!") starring Walter Connolly ("as the famous detective, Nero Wolfe"), Lionel Stander (as Archie Goodwin), Eduardo Ciannelli (as Paul Chapin, the crazy killer), Irene Hervey, Nana Bryant, and Edward McNamara. Note that Rex Stout started writing the super popular Nero Wolfe detective novels in 1934, and in 1936, a movie was made called "Meet Nero Wolfe" with Edward Arnold in the title role. The following year, this movie was made with Walter Connolly taking over the part. But no more sequels were made, perhaps because Rex Stout was not happy with the movies, or perhaps there was another reason. In the 1970s, there was an Italian TV series, and someday someone will do justice to this wonderful series of books in a movie or TV adaptation! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this title card is extremely rare. While we have auctioned four scene cards from this movie, we have never before auctioned this title card! This is likely because Rex Stout or Nero Wolfe fans (of the books) purchased whatever of these cards were for sale in the hobby many years ago (the same situation exists with Nancy Drew lobby cards). Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good. The card had a 6" tear starting in the middle of the left border and running through the lower part of the faces of the man and woman and Connolly's forehead, extending into the large eye next to his head. It also had some tears and stains around the edges. Someone performed nice restoration to the above defects, with tape on the back and slight touch up on the front, but they otherwise left alone the card, and they did not back the card. It displays pretty well, but you can see signs of the defects and the restoration when you look close up. Please read our description above and look at our super-sized images of both sides of the card before placing a bid on this rare lobby card. Learn More about condition grades
