It soon developed into the largest German (and at times the world's largest) shipping company, serving the market created by the German immigration to the United States and later immigration from Eastern Europe. In 1970, after 123 years of independent existence, HAPAG merged with the Bremen-based North German Lloyd to form Hapag-Lloyd AG. Artist: Albert Fuss Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this German travel poster! Also note that this poster features Albert Fuss artwork of a Spanish woman wearing a mantilla (lace veil) as she watches a cruise ship pass in the distance. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was never folded. It was mounted onto a thin linen with no excess, likely soon after it was created. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to backing. It was roughly handled after it was backed, and it acquired creases in the top 2" and a lesser number of creases scattered throughout the poster. If I owned this poster, I would have it removed from the old linen and properly backed. Learn More about condition grades
