An Unfolded Special Poster (measures 17" x 27" [43 x 69 cm]) (Learn More) Sesquicentennial International Exposition, the 1926 poster ("America Welcomes the World"; "The Voice of the Liberty Bell") promoting the Sesquicentennial International Exposition which was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania from June 1st to December 1st. It's purpose was to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the signing of the United States Declaration Of Independence in 1776, as well as the 50th anniversary of the Centennial International Exhibition of 1876. Note that this poster features Dan Smith art of Columbia (an early symbol of America similar to Uncle Sam) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Dan Smith Important Added Info: Note that this is an original poster from 1926 and not any sort of later reproduction. This is the version that measures 17" x 27" and advertised the event, NOT the similar souvenir poster (which measured approximately 10" x 15", and was sold commercially). Note that this is one of seventeen wonderful World War I posters we were consigned, which we are auctioning in separate auctions. All of them are extremely fragile and in urgent need of restoration, but all of them CAN be "rescued", and after proper restoration they will display wonderfully (and many of them are incredibly rare). Please read our condition description below and look at our super-sized image before bidding on any of these great posters! Condition: fair. The poster has pretty significant paper loss along portions of the edges (especially at upper right where a small portion of the art was affected - see our image.) It would not be difficult for any restorer to replace the missing areas, especially because we can provide a high quality scan of the complete poster to the buyer, and after proper restoration, the poster will look great, but bear in mind the poster's condition and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
