(released in the U.S. in 1928 as "Crown of Thorns"), the 1923 Robert Wiene German silent Christian Catholic religious biblical melodrama ("Based on the famous religious classic I.N.R.I."; "'Bearing his own cross the went forth'"; based on the novel by Peter Rosegger) starring Gregori Chmara (as Jesus Christ), Henny Porten (as Mary), Asta Nielsen (as Mary Magdalene), Werner Krauss (as Pontius Pilate), Emanuel Reicher, and Alexander Granach (as Judas Ischariot) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have only auctioned one in all our years of auctioning and that was in 2009 (and that other poster is the ONLY other movie paper item we have sold for this film ever!). Condition: good. Someone many years ago painted over much of the white text below and to the left of the "Photoplay Exchanges of America, Inc." below (see our image). It has some separation and paper loss at the bottom crossfold and small areas of blank border loss at left and lower left. Some of the paint at bottom has transferred to three patches at top (see our image). The poster is otherwise "all there" and the majority of the art is in pretty nice condition, but please see our super-size images and bear in mind the above before placing a bid.
