An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded English Six-Sheet (called a 12sh in England) Movie Poster (6sh; measures 77" x 88 1/2" [196 x 225 cm]) (Learn More) The Return of Frank James, the 1940 Fritz Lang outlaw cowboy western sequel ("Again the name of James strikes terror over all the west! More spectacular and exciting than the unforgettable 'Jesse James'!") starring Henry Fonda (in the title role as Frank James), Gene Tierney (in her first movie role!), Jackie Cooper, Henry Hull, John Carradine, J. Edward Bromberg, Donald Meek, Eddie Collins, George Barbier, Matthew 'Stymie' Beard, and Ernest Whitman. Note that "Jesse James" had been one of 20th Century-Fox's biggest hits of 1939, but of course, Tyrone Power Jr. died at the end of the movie, so the only way they could make a sequel was having it star Henry Fonda, reprising his role as Jesse's brother Frank! Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this English six-sheet, and that example has now been reconsigned to us, so it is still the only example of this English six-sheet we have ever auctioned, and there is an incredible chance that it is the only surviving example of this poster! Also note that this poster was printed in 1940, at a time when England was undergoing a severe paper shortage (as was most of Europe) due to World War II. So they would take older unused posters, and print new posters on the backs of them! In this particular case, the three of the four pieces were printed on the back of pieces from incomplete English three-sheets or six-sheets! We have provided images of the back of the three sections, although of course, the winner of this auction will receive the single "The Return of Frank James" poster (in four sections, three of which have printing on the back, as shown). Condition: good to very good. The poster is fragile. There is some tiny paper loss at some crossfolds, but that includes the one at one of Fonda's eyes. There are a few other tiny areas of paper loss, tiny tears, and separation on parts of the other folds (see our image). As noted above, three of the sections were printed on the back of pieces of other posters, but that has very little effect on the front of any of those sections. Obviously, this ultra rare poster can be linenbacked and restored, but bear all this in mind and look at our super-sized images before bidding on it. Learn More about condition grades
