An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (measures 27" x 41") (Learn More) Phantom Lady, the 1944 Robert Siodmak New York City crime mystery film noir ("The most talked about mystery in ten years!"; "Based on the novel by William Irish", which was the pseudonym Cornell Woolrich used when writing this book; about a man who goes to a bar and meets a woman, and they share their sad stories, and he goes home and finds his wife has been murdered, and he tells the police about the woman in the bar, but nobody can find her, and he is sentenced to death for the murder of his wife, and his secretary tries desperately to find the woman from the bar, who is the "phantom lady" of the title) starring Franchot Tone, Ella Raines, Alan Curtis, Thomas Gomez, Aurora Miranda (sister of Carmen Miranda!), Elisha Cook Jr., Fay Helm, and Andrew Tombes NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, or it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, or it had fairly major defects that were not restorated at all. If it was restored, you can see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would greatly benefit from additional professional restoration. See below for its pre-restoration defects (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). The poster had extra foldlines above the top and middle foldlines and a 13" tear in the left side of the poster 2" above the middle foldline. There were stains, smudges, creases, tears, and some paper loss down the vertical foldline and many smudges and creases around the edges of the poster. The person who linenbacked the poster made slight attempts at restoration, but really pretty much left it as is. They left only a very small amount of excess linen around the edges of the poster.
