An Original Vintage Theatrical Window Card Movie Poster (measures 14" x 16") (Learn More) The Cuban Love Song, the 1931 W.S. Van Dyke Havana Cuba romantic military tropical island musical ("Nights of romance under the tropic moon..."; about a "love 'em and leave 'em" type man who joins the Marines to "sow his wild oats" before getting married; he is stationed in Havana, Cuba and a beautiful peanut vendor falls in love with him, but he is quick to leave her when he gets orders to go to Europe at the start of World War I; he returns to Cuba ten years later to find that she has passed on, but he meets a little 9 year-old Cuban boy whose favorite song is the song he had shared with the woman that he had an affair with) starring Lawrence Tibbett, Lupe Velez, Ernest Torrence, Karen Morley, and Jimmy Durante ("The Screen's New Laugh Sensation"; billed as "'Schnozzle' Durante himself"!). Note that Lawrence Tibbett was a singer during the 1930s (but best remembered from the Metropolitan Opera), who appeared in several movies as, naturally, an opera singer. He was the first to play the leading role in many famous operas, including the role of Brutus Jones, in The Emperor Jones (which he played in blackface)! Darryl F. Zanuck signed him to a multi-picture contract, sure he would be a major star, but alas, he was not, and he only appeared in a few movies. Later, he had throat problems, which led to a drinking problem (or perhaps vice versa), and his later years were unhappy. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this window card has been trimmed and it now measures 14" x 16". Condition: good.
