An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded French Two-Panel "Double Grande" Movie Poster (2p; measures 45 3/4" x 124 1/4" [116 x 316 cm]; printed in 2 pieces) (Learn More) Le Grand Refrain (released in the U.S. in 1946 as "Symphonie D'Amour"), the 1936 Yves Mirande & Robert Siodmak French romantic musical comedy melodrama (about a composer of operettas who can't find anyone to produce one, so he is reduced to walking the streets with sandwich signs, but his girlfriend convinces a rich man to back his latest operetta, and he gets to wear a sandwich sign advertising his own production!) starring Fernand Gravey, Jacqueline Francell, Andre Alerme (billed as "Signoret et Alerme"), Jeanne Aubert, Jean Tissier, Raymond Aimos (billed as "Aimos"), Lucien Callamand, Jean Dax, Cecile Lemaire, Madeleine Suffel, Emile Saulieu (billed as "Saulieu"), Rene Sarvil (billed as "Sarvil"), Roger Legris (billed as "Legris"), Tomas Alcaide (billed as "Alcaide"), and The Comedian Harmonists (internationally famous, all-male German close harmony ensemble) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Roger Cartier Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for this French movie, which we have never auctioned before. Not only that, but we have never previously auctioned ANY movie paper from this movie. Also note that this is an extremely rare pre-World War II French poster! Virtually no French posters survive from before, during, or right after World War II. Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all pre-World War II posters! But there is something very unusual about this poster. It is printed on the back of pieces of other posters. Normally, we see this in posters from the very late 1930s and 1940s (because of the paper shortages in France and Belgium), so that leads to the possibility that this could be a re-release poster from the late 1930s or 1940s, but since it is the ONLY poster from this movie we have ever auctioned, it is impossible to know, and perhaps there were already paper shortages in France in late 1936, when this movie was first released. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Also note that this French two-panel measures 45 3/4" x 124 1/4" [116 x 316 cm]. Also note that this French two-panel was printed in 2 sections designed to overlap. Condition: fair to good. The poster was printed on the back of pieces of other posters (see above). It is quite fragile and has tiny tears and tiny paper loss on parts of most folds. Learn More about condition grades
