An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 1/2" x 9 1/2" [19 x 24 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) The Blackbird (also released as "The Black Bird"), the 1926 Tod Browning silent romantic love triangle crime thriller ("Story by Tod Browning"; a really great story of a master thief in London who steals at night, and by day poses as the crippled owner of a rescue mission, who is called "The Bishop", and of course, no one suspects him of being "The Black Bird", which is what the master thief is called; meanwhile, the thief and his arch rival "West End Bertie" are both in love with the same girl, and they make a bet over which one of them will steal an important diamond collar and give it to the girl as a present; while trying to steal it, The Black Bird shoots a Scotland Yard detective, and retreats to his mission, where he becomes "The Bishop", but he discovers to his horror that his joints are permanently fused by having pretended to be crippled for so long!; so he views it as God's punishment, and he gives up his life as The Black Bird, and becomes The Bishop for real, helping poor people, and West End Bertie gets the girl) starring Lon Chaney Sr. (in the title role as "The Black Bird"), Owen Moore, Renee Adoree, Doris Lloyd, and Andy MacLennan. Note that the IMDb lists the title of this movie as "The Blackbird", but the posters have the title as "The Black Bird". However, the original campaign book trade ad shows it as "The Blackbird", so we imagine the title was changed just prior to release, and it is difficult to say that one is more accurate than the other.
