An Original Vintage English Exhibitor Magazine (measures 11" x 17 1/4" [28 x 44 cm]; 204 pages) (Learn More)

The Cinema, the English trade newspaper catering to the British film industry from 1912 until 1975. It was very similar to The Hollywood Reporter in the U.S., in that it was published daily for many years, but occasionally they would publish special issues, and some of those were really large, and were filled with ads for then current movies. Very few pre-World War II examples of this newspaper exist (likely because of English paper shortages during World War II, and also because they were treated like old newspapers), and even fewer examples of their special issues exist!
Important Added Info: Note that included in this special issue of this exhibitor magazine is a full-page portrait of super young Alfred Hitchcock! Not only is he as young as we have ever seen him in a magazine, but there is also a wonderful stylized logo with his name in a circular format, which we have never seen anywhere else (except in another different incomplete issue of this magazine from 1930)! Also in this issue is a great ad for Platinum Blonde, three pages of images and ads for Frankenstein, and many other ads, which we did not picture. It has a massive 204 pages (a number of pages are missing, probably 16) and is square-bound, and it is filled with ads and articles about then current movies being distributed in England, and there are some color ads as well. Not only have we never auctioned this before, but we have only previously auctioned one other issue of this trade newspaper, as noted above, because they really are THAT rare!

Condition: fair. The covers are missing and also at least 16 interior pages. The spine is mostly missing and there is wear around the edges and on the first page present. But the interior pages are in pretty nice condition (see our images of a few of the interior pages). And the great Alfred Hitchcock page is unharmed, as are many other cool ads.
