An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

Mlle. (Mademoiselle) Modiste, the 1926 Robert Z. Leonard France silent romantic comedy ("Adapted from the famous operetta written by Henry Blossom and composed by Victor Herbert"; about a salesgirl in a French dress shop who is set up in her own shop by a rich American, and he renames her Mlle. Modiste, and her boyfriend misunderstands, and thinks she has become a prostitute!) starring Corinne Griffith, Norman Kerry, Willard Louis, Dorothy Cumming, and Rose Dione. Note that this was an adaptation of an operetta into a silent film, so there couldn't be any music or singing, but the operetta was remade in 1931 as "Kiss Me Again", starring Bernice Claire and Walter Pidgeon. Also note that online databases list this movie is titled "Mademoiselle Modiste", but the posters clearly have "Mlle. Modiste" instead. We wonder if it was actually called "Mademoiselle Modiste" on its first release. Does anyone know one way or the other?

Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards.

Condition: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had never been folded. It had a thin slightly diagonal vertical line of water staining down the center of the poster, running to the left of Griffith's figure, and just touching the end of her elbow and the end of her dress, with just a few other water stains scattered in the rest of the image (primarily in the background). Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. A talented restorer cleaned the poster thoroughly, removing much of the staining through chemical means, and did paint restoration as needed. This poster has had expert restoration and displays well. Obviously, one would prefer to find an example of this insert that had no defects or restoration, but I do not know if another example of this insert exists (or if it does, if the owner would consider parting with it!).
