An Original Vintage German Film Program (measures 8 3/4" x 11 1/2" [22 x 29 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More)

Bulldog Drummond in Africa, the 1938 Louis King Morocco detective jungle adventure crime mystery thriller ("Adventure in a weird mysterious jungle!"; "Based on 'Challenge' by H.C. [Sapper] McNeile"; about the legendary detective in Morocco about to be married, but a member of Scotland Yard is kidnapped, and he must rescue him!) starring John Howard (in the title role as Bulldog Drummond), Heather Angel, H.B. Warner, J. Carrol Naish, Reginald Denny, E.E. Clive, Anthony Quinn (in a very early role as a henchman), and Fortunio Bonanova. Note that "Bulldog Drummond" was a fictional English detective who was created in 1920 in a magazine story by H.C. McNeile, who wrote under the pen name of "Sapper" He appeared in ten novels, short stories, and even stage plays. When McNeile passed away in 1937, his friend, Gerard Fairlie, wrote more stories between 1938 and 1954, and after that, other authors created even more stories. Drummond was a World War I veteran who is bored and becomes an amateur detective, and he marries his first client, who becomes his assistant. The first movie based on this character was in 1923, with Carlyle Blackwell in the lead role. There was one more silent with Jack Buchanan in the lead, and then Ronald Colman starred in the first sound version in 1929. There were 13 movies in the 1930s, one with Ray Milland and many with John Howard in the lead role. The character was revived in 1947, and 5 movies were made between 1947 and 1951, with Ron Randell, Tom Conway, and Walter Pidgeon playing the leads.

Important Added Info: Note that the back cover of this German program has an ad for an upcoming John Wayne movie, Wyoming Outlaw, and John Wayne is pictured in the ad (we don't think this was a common practice at all in these German programs, because there are not ads on any others we have seen, and it is surely one of the most rare John Wayne items we could imagine! Also note that we have provided an image of four of the pages of this 8-page program (we did this by opening it and laying it flat and photographing the front and back cover together, and two of the interior pages together). You can see the four of the eight pages, and can well determine the exact condition of it from our super-sized image, but realize that there are four pages you are not seeing. But of course this means that the front cover appears in the top right of our image, but normally, the program would be folded down the center and you would view the cover by itself (and it will be sent folded as was originally intended).

Condition: good.
