An Original Vintage Autographed Paper (measures 1 1/2" x 6" [4 x 15 cm]) Matted and Framed with a REPRODUCTION Photo (entire display measures 15 1/4" x 15 1/4") (Learn More) Hattie McDaniel was an actress from the 1930s to the 1950s. She was one of the first black African American performers to achieve success in mainstream Hollywood movies. She is best remembered for her role as "Mammy" in "Gone with the Wind", and she appeared in 95 movies between 1932 and 1949, and she had her own TV show, "Beulah", in the 1950s. She was even the inspiration for the "Mammy Two Shoes" character in the Tom & Jerry cartoons! But because she almost exclusively played stereotyped roles throughout her career, her work is little seen today (except of course for "Gone with the Wind"). That is especially unfortunate, because she had an even more significant career than most people realize. She is believed to be the first black woman to sing on the radio (in 1915), and she was a major vaudeville and cabaret singing star in the 1910s and 1920s! Perhaps a movie can be made about her remarkable career. McDaniel passed away in 1952 at the age of 59. Important Added Info: Note that the paper has been personally autographed (signed) by Hattie McDaniel! It is nicely matted together with a REPRODUCTION photo, and the entire display has been framed and is ready to hang on the wall! Also note that the item comes with a "certificate of authenticity" from Matinee Idol (a well known Hollywood memorabilia shop) attached to the back of the frame. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good. The autograph was nicely framed and matted with a REPRODUCTION photo, and it displays well! Learn More about condition grades
