Date Sold 1/20/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage 7 1/4" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] News Photo (Learn More) Johnny Weissmuller was an Austro-Hungarian (now Romania) actor from the 1920s to the 1970s. He was the 1924 Olympic swimming champion, and he set a number of world records, and he never lost a race. In 1940, at the age of 36, he broke his own world record in the 100-yard freestyle, which he had set 13 years earlier, and which stood for another 4 years before finally being broken after 17 years! But of course, he is best remembered for playing Tarzan starting in 1932 (in "Tarzan the Ape Man", followed by "Tarzan and His Mate", and many others!), and later he starred as Jungle Jim in the 1950s AND Johnny Sheffield was an actor from the 1930s to the 1950s. After appearing in "Tarzan Finds A Son" in 1939 as "Boy", Sheffield made a few other movies, but then settled in to playing solely "Boy" and later "Bomba the Jungle Boy" in that highly successful series! Important Added Info: Note that the snipe on the back of the news photo is labeled "Sons of Tarzan" and "Tarzans on Parade", because Weissmuller is shown with both 14 year old Johnny Sheffield, who plays his movie son, and with 6 year old Johnny Weissmuller Jr., who is his real life son, and all three are in Tarzan loincloths (they are on the set of "Tarzan and the Leopard Woman", which was currently filming)! There is also a stamp on the back for photographer Phil Stern. Also note that this news photo measures 7 1/4" x 9" [18 x 23 cm]. Condition: good. There are many creases scattered throughout the news photo. Learn More about condition grades
