An Original Vintage 3 1/2" x 5 1/4" [9 x 13 cm] Photo (Learn More) Angels with Dirty Faces, the classic 1938 Michael Curtiz (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic crime murder thriller melodrama (in this movie, quintessential tough guy Cagney is a hero to the Dead End Kids, and at the end his childhood pal, now a priest, asks him to be a coward as he is led to the electric chair to help keep those kids from following in his footsteps; "A story... mighty with the clash of men! A picture... unforgettable in its greatness!"; "Sensational in it's dramatic impact!"; "From a Story by Rowland Brown") starring James Cagney (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as Rocky Sullivan), Pat O'Brien (as Father Jerry Connolly), The Dead End Kids (Leo Gorcey [as Bim], Billy Halop [as Soapy], Huntz Hall [as Crab], Bobby Jordan, Gabriel Dell, Bernard Punsly), Humphrey Bogart (as James Frazier), Ann Sheridan (as Laury Ferguson), George Bancroft, and Frankie Burke (as the young Rocky; he was an unknown 17 year-old newsboy when he was discovered to play the young James Cagney, because he had an uncanny resemblance to young James Cagney!) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: What a wonderful display this is! The designer built an actual jail cell that is mounted in front of images of the Dead End Kids, and inside the jail cell is an electric chair, with the words "But for the grace of God, here be I", and in front of the chair is a life-sized image of Pat O'Brien standing over the kneeling James Cagney! They really knew how to make fancy displays back then! Also note that in October and November of 2017, we auctioned a wonderful collection of around 60 photos (most measured 3.5x5.25, but some measured slightly smaller) that were taken by a man who worked at a large movie theater in the late 1930s and early 1940s. He created wonderful theater fronts and homemade posters (some that were displayed outside the theater and some inside the theater), and after he finished making his displays, he would take a picture of each and then he put them in a scrapbook. Collectors rightfully bid aggressively on these photos, and the best of them auctioned for hundreds of dollars each! Now we are offering another 32 photos from this amazing scrapbook, and after this, there will just be a few bulk lots of the remaining photos (either because they are from much lesser movies or are in lesser condition). So this is the last chance to acquire these very rare to find photos of original theater fronts and local theater displays from this time period. Each of the 32 photos is in a separate auction with this paragraph on them. Condition: good to very good. There are staple holes in the corners. There are glue stains on the back (see our images).
