An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Madame Du Barry (also released as "Du Barry"), the 1917 J. Gordon Edwards silent historical romantic royalty melodrama ("The story of the greatest adventuress in the history of France"; loosely based on the novel by Alexandre Dumas; about a very ambitious young lady who starts as a casino hostess, but manages to become the mistress to the king, all the while maintaining a relationship with her true love, and she remains with him throughout her life) starring Theda Bara (in the title role), Charles Clary, Fred Church, Herschel Mayall, Genevieve Blinn, and Willard Louis. Note that there were three silent versions of this movie in the 1910s. In 1930 came "Du Barry, Woman of Passion", the first sound version, followed by an English version, "I Give My Heart" (released in the U.S. as "The Loves of Madame Dubarry"), in 1935. In 1943, there was "Du Barry Was a Lady", with Lucille Ball, but that was a comedy and was not from the same source as this movie and the earlier versions.
