An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

The Show-Off (also released as "The Show Off"), the 1926 Malcom St. Clair silent poor-man-posing-as-a-wealthy-executive screwball comedy ("From the play by George Kelly") starring Lois Wilson, Ford Sterling, Louise Brooks, Gregory Kelly, and Claire McDowell. Note that the IMDb lists this movie as being called "The Show Off", but the one-sheet calls it "The Show-Off" (and some of the other items have the hyphen, and some do not), so we are listing the title both ways so that people searching for either one will not miss it. Note that this movie was remade in sound in 1930 as Men Are Like That. Note that although Louise Brooks was billed third, she was not pictured on the one-sheet, and we don't know what posters, if any, she was pictured on.

If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that there are many collectors who search for original vintage movie paper that shows Louise Brooks, and it often sells for very high prices. Over the years, we have auctioned a fair number of stills and lobby cards that show Louise Brooks, but only a handful of first release U.S. posters that show her, and most of those were many years ago. This insert has a great image of Louise Brooks (see our image). Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that while this poster technically COULD be rolled in a tube, the backing is heavy enough that we strongly advise against it. Therefore, we will only send this poster in a very large flat package, unless the new owner insists on a tube, and accepts responsibility for any damage caused by it being rolled. The poster will arrive fine and display great if it is sent in a flat package, but it will cost more to send this way, especially if the poster is being sent outside the U.S., so please only bid on this poster when you take into mind the cost of shipping it in a very large flat package.

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had approximately 1/2" of paper loss in the center of most of the top border, but not affecting the writing. It had some added paper loss in the top left blank corner and a thin strip of paper loss above the "LCO" of "MALCOLM". It had small circular paper loss near the middle of the left and right borders, with two pinholes in the top left of the man's hat. It had some light smudges and stains scattered in parts of the poster, including in Brooks' right cheek, with a crease running up her cheek through the right edge of her eye and into the bottom of her hat. There were some stains in the lower right of the man's coat. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
