Date Sold 10/22/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Walt Disney's The Sword and the Rose, the 1953 Ken Annakin (billed as "Kenneth Annakin") English Walt Disney medieval romantic adventure melodrama ("Now! Walt Disney brings new excitement to romance!"; "Starring a fiery new romantic team"; "starring a new romantic team"; "Emotional impact"; "Fiery new romantic team"; "Tumultuous action"; "Brawling, boisterous monarch"; "Pomp and pageantry"; "Memorable characters"; "from the famed Adventure Novel When Knighthood Was in Flower"; "An all live action picture") starring Richard Todd (as Charles Brandon), Glynis Johns (as Princess Mary Tudor), James Robertson Justice (as King Henry VIII), Michael Gough, Jane Barrett, Peter Copley, and D.A. Clarke-Smith (as Cardinal Wolsey). Note that this was based on the book When Knighthood was in Flower, and it seemed like an odd choice for a Walt Disney movie, given that the only previous two movie versions were in 1908 and 1922. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been personally autographed (signed) by Glynis Johns! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. This autographed item was obtained from the estate of a consignor, who recently passed away. He started collecting mostly lobby cards and stills in the late 1960s, and he hit on the idea that he could get a lot of them signed, because he knew that many of the stars were still alive, but that many of them lived in the Motion Picture Home run by the Academy, and he visited there many times, becoming friendly with a number of the stars there. He also was able to meet other older stars, and acquired most of his signatures in person, although a few were acquired through the mail. He went out of his way to obtain signed items from his favorite films and stars, which included It's a Wonderful Life and Harvey (because he became friends with Jimmy Stewart). He was also friends with Moe Howard and Larry Fine, and he obtained many signatures on items from their films, which he loved, and he also was friends with Margaret Hamilton, Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, and most of the Munchkins, because he especially loved The Wizard of Oz! His family does not have certificates of authenticity for any of his items, but they do have multiple pictures of him with the stars who signed for him, and we are 100% certain that the items we are auctioning from his collection were personally signed by the stars! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: fair to good. The card has what looks to be an unfortunate printing defect (it is possibly a scuff, but it does not appear that way), which caused red lines to the right of her nose and upper lip. There are a lesser number of similar red marks in her neck. Obviously, one could display this card anyway, or choose to have it restored, but bear in mind this defect before bidding. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
