An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

Bluebeard's Eighth Wife, the classic 1938 Ernst Lubitsch France romantic idle rich marriage comedy ("He married in haste and repeated with pleasure!"; "Based on the play by Alfred Servoir"; "Screen Play by Charles Brackett & Billy Wilder"; "English Play Adaptation by Charlton Andrews"; about an American multi-millionaire who marries the daughter of a poor French aristocrat, and because she is his eighth wife, she works hard to keep him) starring Claudette Colbert (in the title role), Gary Cooper, Edward Everett Horton, David Niven, Elizabeth Patterson, Herman Bing, Franklin Pangborn, and Rolfe Sedan. Note that this movie combines wonderful direction by Ernst Lubitsch, great writing by Charles Brackett and Billy Wilder, and wonderful acting by the leads. It really "has it all"!

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this window card, and only one in the last 12 years! Not only that, but the only other posters from this movie we auctioned were an "other company" insert and a one-sheet in much lesser condition, and that was 16 years ago! Also note that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded.

Condition: good to very good. The card had tiny nail holes around the edges, with one each in the top left and right of the blue background area, and one below the "O" of "COOPER". It had two in the lower right yellow background area, and one in the second "E" of "BLUEBEARD", and one in the "E" of "EIGHTH", with one in the bottom left, just touching the "P" of "Produced". It also had light water staining on the back of the bottom 7" of the card, but it only had an extremely slight effect on the front. Other than the above, the card was in pretty nice condition. Someone put tape on the back of the tiny nail holes within the image, but not the ones at the top of the card. They then performed slight restoration to the front of those areas, but they did not back the card in any way, and did no other restoration. The card displays pretty well just as it is, or certainly, one could choose to have additional restoration performed, likely without backing the card.
