An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Domestic Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81" x 81" [206 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Kiss Me, Stupid, the 1965 Billy Wilder stranded-in-a-small-town romantic comedy ("Billy Wilder's new comedy"; "It happened in Climax, Nevada"; "Dino - he came to dinner..."; "Polly the Pistol - she stayed for breakfast..."; "Beethoven - he cooked up the whole mess..."; "MISSING: A girl's navel!"; "MISSING: A girl's navel - of great sentimental value. Finder please contact Polly the Pistol, friendliest hostess a the Belly Button Cafe."; "Screenplay by Billy Wilder and I.A.L. Diamond"; "This picture is for adults only!") starring Dean Martin, Kim Novak, Ray Walston, Felicia Farr, and Cliff Osmond. Note that this film received a "condemned" rating by the Catholic Legion of Decency, as well as complaints from other groups, and United Artists chose to release it in the U.S. through their subsidiary Lopert Pictures. However, United Artists is still seen on movie paper printed prior to this decision. Also, note that filming began with Peter Sellers, but he suffered a heart attack and was replaced by Ray Walston NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster has one of the more interesting stamps on the back we have ever seen! It says "SECTION 'A-1' REPLACEMENT" above "6 SH. DOM. 65/4". By opening the poster, we see that section A-1 is the top left piece, which includes just the image of Kim Novak from her waist up. So obviously, the poster originally had an image of her that was unacceptable to censors! The most likely explanation would be that it originally showed her navel (there had been a big issue over this with Ursula Andress' bikini in 1962 in "Dr. No"). Whatever the problem was, that section of the poster was quickly reprinted with the above stamp. But what is odd is that the other examples of this poster we have auctioned have not had that stamp on the back. So that would mean that after it was corrected, they went back to press with a new print run that was correct, and they didn't need the stamp for those. But we have never auctioned a six-sheet WITHOUT the replacement image, and we certainly would love to find one that had the original image (but it may be that none exist). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Note that this poster was stamped "DOM" which means it was printed for use within the United States (there would also have been posters stamped "FOR" for use outside the United States). Also note that this six-sheet was printed in 4 sections designed to overlap. Condition: very good to fine. There is a tiny stain and tiny paper loss in one tiny part of the blank border. Otherwise, the poster is in nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
