An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded German Movie Poster (measures 32 1/2" x 46 1/2" [83 x 118 cm]) (Learn More) Optimistische Tragodie (literally translates to "Optimistic Tragedy"), the 1958 German stage play production (of the 1933 Vsevolod Vishnevsky Russian play), which was performed by the Berliner Ensemble theater group, and held at the Bertolt-Brecht Platz in Berlin. Note that the Berliner Ensemble is a German theatre company established by playwright Bertolt Brecht and his wife, Helene Weigel in 1949 in Berlin, East Germany. Bertolt Brecht was a German theatre practitioner, playwright, and poet from the 1920s to 1956. He was the main proponent of the genre named epic theater. During the Nazi period and World War II he lived in exile, first in Scandinavia and then in the United States. Returning to East Berlin after the war, he established the theatre company Berliner Ensemble with his wife and long-time collaborator, actress Helene Weigel.
