An Original Vintage Folded Dutch World War II Poster (measures 35" x 47" [89 x 119 cm]) (Learn More)

Toont U Een Waarachtig Nederlander (literally translates to "Show Yourself as a True Dutchman"), the 1943 Dutch World War II (WWII) recruitment poster (with a tagline that translates to "Fight Bolshevism! Join the Waffen-SS") created by the Nazi German occupying forces to encourage Dutch men to join the German Waffen-SS (and, in their words, to fight "Bolshevism"). Note that this poster features art of Maarten Tromp (an admiral in the Dutch navy during the Dutch struggle for independence from Spain) and the silhouette of modern soldiers. The image of Tromp was added to convince Dutchmen that they would be doing their patriotic duty by joining the Nazis!
Artist: S.
Important Added Info: Note that this remarkable poster, which we have never auctioned before, is surely incredibly rare. It was consigned to us from the owner of the amazing collection of political and war posters which we auctioned on November 19, 2017. He "held back" a few of his most rare and most interesting posters, but he has now consigned those remaining ones to us, and they are being auctioned in this December Major Auction (and this is one of them). It is likely that this poster and the others can only be found in museum collections (if they can be found at all), and this is a very rare opportunity to obtain this poster.

Condition: very good to fine. The poster has tiny separation at a few crossfolds and minor fold and border wear. What is most remarkable about this poster is that other than the above, it has survived in really excellent condition, and is not at all darkened or fragile. I would not think it could have survived in better condition!
