An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 16 pages). Also included is an ad supplement that has 12 pages. (Learn More) Ernest Hemingway's To Have and Have Not, the classic 1944 Howard Hawks World War II (WWII) romantic suspense melodrama ("Humphrey Bogart... with his kind of woman in a powerful adaptation of Ernest Hemingway's most daring man-woman story!"; very loosely adapted from the classic story by Ernest Hemingway, "Screen Play by Jules Furthman and William Faulkner"; "If you want anything mister, ...just whistle!"; "It happens this way.."; "In love with his kind of woman!"; this was the movie where middle-aged Humphrey Bogart met 19 year old Lauren Bacall, and won her romantically, both on and off the screen) starring Humphrey Bogart, Walter Brennan, Lauren Bacall (in her very first movie role!), Hoagy Carmichael, Sheldon Leonard, Dan Seymour, Dolores Moran, Marcel Dalio, and Walter Sande. Note that this movie was not very faithful to Ernest Hemingway's story. Just six years later, Warner Bros. remade the movie with John Garfield and Patricia Neal, and this time they were more faithful to the story. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned this pressbook once before, and that example had cuts. This is the first time we have ever auctioned a complete uncut example of this pressbook! Also note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Note that we have provided several images from this pressbook, always including the cover and the poster pages, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Note that we are auctioning 74 pressbooks in this Part II of our March Major Auction. 62 of those come from a single collector who was attempting to assemble EVERY pressbook from movie serials that were based on either comic book or comic strip characters (see those auctions for more about those). This is one of the 12 other pressbooks in this auction that are also extremely rare, and most of these 12 are ones we have never auctioned before (and may never auction again)! Condition: fair to good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut and it was never folded. The pages are fragile and separated at the spine, and there are chips and small tears around the edges of the cover and a lesser amount on the interior pages. Learn More about condition grades
