An Original Vintage Theatrical Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More)

House of Dracula, the 1945 Erle C. Kenton Universal vampire monster horror thriller ("All new... All together!"; "Frankenstein's Monster, Wolf Man, Dracula, Mad Doctor, Hunchback"; the seventh Universal Frankenstein movie, and this was the second "all-star" movie, a sequel of sorts to "House of Frankenstein", with all of its best monsters brought together in a single movie!) starring Lon Chaney Jr. (as Lawrence Talbot/The Wolf Man), Martha O'Driscoll, John Carradine (as Count Dracula), Lionel Atwill, Onslow Stevens (taking over the role of The Mad Doctor from Boris Karloff), Glenn Strange (as Frankenstein's monster, uncredited on the "House of Frankenstein" posters, and credited here, but still not receiving the credit he deserved!), Jane Adams (as the hunchback nurse; oddly, she was sometimes billed by Universal as "Poni Adams"!), and Ludwig Stossel. Note that once again Universal has an extremely politically incorrect "hunchback" as a monster on par with Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolf Man, but in "House of Frankenstein", the hunchback was a man, and in this movie, the hunchback is a beautiful woman and a key plot point is that the mad doctor will "make her beautiful" by surgically fixing her hunch back!

Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this 1945 first release half-sheet! Note that all 1945 first release posters are extremely rare, likely caused by the movie getting an extremely quick re-release just five years later in 1950, by Realart (first release posters were likely used or destroyed at that time).Note that this poster has been "gel backed". What does that mean? It means that a talented restorer backed the poster onto a gel material, and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, and afterward the poster still looks and feels like an original poster (and it is!), with no backing at all. Many collectors prefer this method of restoration to paperbacking or linenbacking, because with those methods the poster no longer looks like it was not backed. Gel backing can't be used with posters that have major paper loss or other major defects, but for the posters it can be used on, it is really an excellent method of restoration!

Note that this poster was gel backed, and while it could be rolled and sent in a tube, we would worry that doing so would either damage the poster or bring back the folds. Therefore, we would much prefer to send it in a large flat package. However, if the new buyer insists, we will send it in a tube, but only if they accept responsibility for doing so.

Condition: good. The poster had tiny bits of paper loss on parts of both folds, more so in the top of the vertical fold. It had many pinholes and some small tears and tiny paper loss around the edges, with a few creases, smudges, and scuffs scattered in the image. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. It appears that the poster was gel-backed a number of years ago, and that since that time, it was displayed and the restoration paint in the top of the vertical fold has become much more noticeable over the years. If I owned this incredibly rare poster, I would surely immediately sent it to a top restorer, and after further professional restoration, the poster will display really well, but bear the above in mind and look at our super-sized image before bidding.
