Artist: Jim Steranko Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned four examples of this REALLY cool English pre-production folder for Raiders of the Lost Ark (and they sold for $280, $260, $210, and $130). Three of those came from one consignor, and he had four to begin with, and now we are auctioning the last one he had, and then we have no more, so this may be your last opportunity to purchase this brochure for quite some time! Note that this promo brochure was created well before the movie came out, and it has great Jim Steranko art (both on the inside of the folder and on two 8" x 10" color stills). Jim Steranko, the well known comic book artist, had been hired in 1979 to create concept artwork for this movie based on instructions from George Lucas. You can read more about that by following this link. This art was eventually used in this English promo brochure for the movie! In many ways, this folder seems like a presskit, but the folder is 10 1/2" x 13 1/2", which is much larger than regular presskit folders from this time, and the inside of the folder has a great die-cut image of Steranko's drawing of Indiana Jones, and there are two color stills which also feature Steranko art. The folder and the stills have "TM LUCASFILM, LTD (LFI) 1980", and the billing on the back of the folder says "(TENTATIVE BILLING)". There is a 3-page supplement included as well, which gives "the story" of the movie. This is certainly one of the most rare Raiders of the Lost Ark collectibles we have ever encountered! It was consigned to us by a man who obtained it from a U.S. theater owner who acquired it in 1980, and perhaps Paramount sent it to some U.S. theater owners to get them interested in the upcoming movie.
