Should I run or make her Mrs.? Trouble is. She reminisces. What a dizzy Eden this is!"; "Screenplay based on a story by Monckton Hoffe"; "Written and directed by Preston Sturges"; about a nerdy anthropologist on an ocean liner voyage, who gets swindled by an old gambler/cheat and his beautiful daughter, and later, she tries to do it again by impersonating a completely different woman, but he is sure she is the woman he met before) starring Barbara Stanwyck, Henry Fonda, Charles Coburn, Eugene Pallette, Martha O'Driscoll, William Demarest, Eric Blore, Janet Beecher, Melville Cooper, and Robert Greig. Note that the credit "Screenplay based on a story by Monckton Hoffe" sounds reminiscent of a W.C. Fields credit for himself under a wacky pseudonym, but actually, Monckton Hoffe is a real man, who was an Irish playwright, who worked in Hollywood mostly in the late 1920s through the early 1940s, but "The Lady Eve" is far and away his most famous credit! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this still measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm]. Note that this still likely has a stamp on the back in the form of a diamond that has the letters "TRR". One certainly might wonder who placed this stamp there and why. The answer is that 146 of the stills in this set of auctions come to us from a still collector who has collected for many decades, and long ago he began stamping the back of almost his stills with this stamp, and "TRR" is his initials! We said earlier "likely has", because while this collector stamped most of his stills, he did not stamp every one, so you can see for yourself if this is one of the stamped ones by looking at our image of the back of the still. Each of those stamped stills are stamped lightly, and the stamp does NOT affect the front of the still. He is a VERY advanced collector, and he has consigned many wonderful stills to us!
