An Original Vintage 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] News Photo (Learn More) The Berlin wall was a barrier that divided Berlin, Germany from 1961 to 1989 (though there were various blockades put in place just after World War II). The Berlin Wall was allegedly constructed to prevent the 'will of the people' in building a socialist state in East Germany; however, the wall actually served to prevent the emigration and defection that had gone on for years prior as German citizens tried to escape the Communist regime. Anti-Wall sentiment developed in the 1980s, until East German citizens were allowed to pass through in 1989 after increased protests. The Wall was torn down at crossings informally by citizens, until it was officially dismantled in 1991. Important Added Info: Note that this news photo measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm].
