An Unfolded Special Poster (measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More)

Careful Crossing Campaign, the 1922 public safety poster ("Cross crossings cautiously") promoting the American Railways Association's efforts to reduce the number of accidents, which lasted from June 1st to September 30th. Records show that 1,702 people were killed and 4,818 people were hurt in crashes at railroad crossings in 1921. Note that the poster features art of a car full of people speeding across the tracks in front of an on-coming train.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Our consignor believes that it is surely from 1922, and tells us that, "It came out of one of the several railroad stations built in a small town in Western New York called Caledonia." It was acquired in the 1960s when one of the stations closed. Our consignor is not certain which railroad line building it came from, "but any railroad buff would know that several lines ran through the Caledonia/Mumford area at the height of the railroad business." We searched the internet and could not find another example of this poster in this size, but we found other sizes. If anyone knows more about exactly when this poster is from, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has some light staining in the bottom of the bottom border and in the left of the top border, extending into the blue background (see our image).
