An Original Vintage 8" x 10" News Photo Still (Learn More) Ava Gardner was an actress from the 1940s to the 1980s. Surprisingly, Hollywood did not recognize the talents of this beautiful actress for years, because she had a long string of tiny or uncredited roles before she became a star! Some of her movies include: Mogambo (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), The Killers, On the Beach, The Barefoot Contessa, Bhowani Junction, and many others! She was married three times to famous celebrities: Mickey Rooney, Artie Shaw, and Frank Sinatra. She also struck a friendship with Ernest Hemingway, who, after witnessing Gardner swim naked in his pool, told his staff "the water is not to be emptied"! She passed away in 1990 at the age of 67. Important Added Info: There is a snipe stapled to the top left corner of the still (it is on "King Features Syndicate" paper, and gives information about this news photo). Note that the still shows a great candid image of Ava Gardner and director Frank Borzage on the dance floor at Mocambo, "Hollywood night hot-spot". The snipe mentions that Ava is "the ex-Mrs. Mickey Rooney" and that she is "now rated at MGM as one of that studio's best bets for rising stardom". The person who wrote the snipe was certainly right! After having appeared in tiny uncredited roles in 23 movies, she next married and divorced band leader Artie Shaw in one year's time, and she then starred in several movies in 1946 (two years after this still was released), and she indeed DID become a major star! Condition: very good. There are many faint emulsion scuffs and scratches in the top background area of the still, but very few in the rest of the still, and they are truthfully not very noticeable or distracting.
