What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and a few small tears and separation on parts of the folds. It had a vertical tear in the bottom left, running through the left of the red cross. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. The poster was removed from the stretcher too soon, and there is now rippling around the edges of the excess linen, but it does not really affect the poster.
