Costain's The Silver Chalice, the 1955 Victor Saville romantic melodrama ("'I bid you seek the lost Silver Cup~ for sin is rising like the swollen rivers...'"; "Warner Bros. present The Mightiest Story of Good and Evil Ever Told, Ever Lived, Ever Made Into a Motion Picture!"; "On the screen! Read by over 25 million people to date!"; "Helena the Seductress who embarked on a wanton life of abandon!"; "Deborra the Innocent whose virtue tempted the tyrant legions!"; "Simon the Magician who brought the world to the brink of chaos!"; "Basil the Defender the slave who became the Champion of the Sacred Cup!"; "from the novel by Thomas B. Costain, a story of the cup of The Last Supper") starring Virginia Mayo, Pier Angeli, Jack Palance, Paul Newman (billed as "Introducing Paul Newman"; in his very first movie!), Lorne Greene, Jacques Aubuchon (as Nero), Walter Hampden, Michael Pate, and Natalie Wood. Note that Newman has regularly made great fun of this movie, often calling it the worst movie made in the 1950s, and when it ran on television, he placed ads in newspapers urging people not to watch it. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this still appears in every way to be original U.S. release EXCEPT that there is one very tiny line of French type in the lower right. It reads, "IMPRIME AUX ETATS-UNIS D'AMERIQUE". A collector has told us that he believes this means the still was printed for use in areas that included French-speaking parts of Canada, but that it WAS printed in the U.S., and that makes complete sense to us (and we have seen this on stills from the 1940s through the early 2000s, so it has certainly been done for an extremely long time)! So it is an original still from 1955, but it was printed partially for use in French-speaking Canada. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good.
