An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Mini Movie Window Card (WC; measures 8" x 14" [20 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Littlest Rebel, the 1935 David Butler Civil War Southern Confederate Army juvenile musical melodrama ("From the play by Edward Peble"; about a Southern plantation owner who joins the Confederate Army and occasionally visits his darling daughter; the soldier is sentenced to be executed, but his daughter personally gets a pardon from President Abraham Lincoln) starring Shirley Temple, John Boles, Jack Holt, Karen Morley, Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson (one of the first black African American actors to achieve success in mainstream sound movies), Guinn 'Big Boy' Williams, Willie Best, and Frank McGlynn Sr. (as President Abraham Lincoln). Note that this was the movie where Bill 'Bojangles' Robinson performs a "challenge dance" with Shirley Temple! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this pressbook! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a heavy paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that this is one of a wonderful collection of 36 ultra rare mini window cards we were consigned, which we are currently auctioning in 36 separate auctions! If you don't know already, mini window cards (which were made by the studios to serve as "mini posters" that could be displayed in small areas where larger posters could not) are similar in size to lobby cards, except that they measure 8" x 14" rather than 11" x 14", and they have a vertical orientation, with a blank top where theaters could put their play dates like with 14x22 window cards. But they are many, many times more rare than title lobby cards, or even regular window cards! Likely, this is because most theaters did not order these, but there could be another reason. We are not overstating this massive rarity difference! For example, we have auctioned around 20,000 14x22 window cards, and around 35,000 title lobby cards, but fewer than FIVE HUNDRED of these mini window cards! Every other hobby puts a massive premium on extreme rarity, and it seems that it will be just a matter of time before our hobby does the same with mini window cards! Perhaps it is their extreme rarity that causes many collectors to be unaware of them, but that is sure to change as well! This is a rare opportunity to purchase any of 36 mini window cards at one time! What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card was folded across the middle and there were creases along that fold. It also had a 4" tear in the right border just below the title that went into Temple's hair and forehead. There was a 1" tear in the left border going into the red background. There was small paper loss in the center of the bottom border that extended into the "P" of "PICTURE". Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
