An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]; 6 pages) (Learn More) Superman and the Mole Men (released in England as "Superman and the Strange People"), the 1951 Lee Sholem comic book superhero science fiction (sci-fi) subterranean aliens fantasy thriller ("The All-Time Ace of Action!"; "...in his First Full-Length Feature Adventure!") starring George Reeves (in the title role as Superman/Clark Kent), Phyllis Coates (as Lois Lane), Jeff Corey, Walter Reed, J. Farrell MacDonald, and Stanley Andrews. Note that this movie was released theatrically. After it proved very successful, George Reeves was hired for the "The Adventures of Superman" TV series along with Phyllis Coates (who left the series after the 1st season and was replaced with Noel Neill, who portrayed Lois in the first 2 Superman serials). Also, this movie was shown as a special two-part episode of the TV show! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this pressbook was printed on a large 14" x 33" sheet that was tri-folded to create six "pages". We have provided images of the entire interior three pages and the entire exterior three pages, as well as a separate image of the cover. Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Note that we are auctioning 74 pressbooks in this Part II of our March Major Auction. 62 of those come from a single collector who was attempting to assemble EVERY pressbook from movie serials that were based on either comic book or comic strip characters, and he spent many decades doing so, and he came very close to getting every one there is! These include many that we have never auctioned in all our years of auctioning, and may well never auction them again! This is a very rare opportunity for collectors to acquire these ultra rare pressbooks (which are even more rare than the posters from these same serials, likely because they were sent to very few theaters, and likely most of those theaters immediately threw them out). If one started to try to assemble a similar collection without purchasing any of these pressbooks, they would likely spend many years before they could acquire even a small percentage of them. That is how rare these are! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. The cover is mostly separated from the other pages at the spine and there is a small tear in the upper right of the cover. Otherwise, the pressbook is in nice condition!
