Date Sold 11/15/2012Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Vintage Autographed Hardcover Book (measures 5 3/4" x 8 1/2" [15 x 22 cm]; 335 pages) (Learn More) Pat O'Brien was born in 1899. The quintessential Irish actor, he was playing the second lead in The Front Page on Broadway, and someone at United Artists, which had just bought the rights, heard he was great in it, but they thought he had the lead role and they offered it to him, and of course he didn't correct them! He soon settled in at Warner Brothers, first playing romantic lead roles, but it wasn't long before he became a secondary star, often playing stereotyped Irish cops and priests. Perhaps his best remembered role was as Father Connelly in Angels With Dirty Faces, where he memorably asks gangster Rocky Sullivan to act "yellow" as he is strapped in the chair, so that kids everywhere wouldn't emulate him and end up where he did. He is also remembered for his roles in Some Like it Hot, and Page Miss Glory. He passed away in 1983 at the age of 83. Important Added Info: Note that this item has been personally autographed (signed) by Pat O'Brien! We have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads. Note that this item was consigned to us by an individual who owned a company that made movies and videos with famous celebrities in the 1980s and 1990s. The owner of the company would have the celebrities sign items from their famous films, and sometimes he would find second or third celebrities to autograph an item he already had gotten signed! In addition, he would ask celebrities he came in contact with if they had signed items from other stars that they would sell to him, and he purchased a number of items that way. He also would purchase unsigned items from the famed Larry Edmunds Bookshop in Los Angeles (to have the celebrities sign), and while he was doing that he would also purchase some of their signed items. So all of the items we have been consigned from this consignor were either obtained in person, obtained from celebrities who obtained them in person, or obtained from the Larry Edmunds Bookshop, and we feel certain that the autograph on this item is authentic! Condition: good to very good. There is some scuffing on the dust jacket. There was something stored in the first interior page of the book, and it has discolored that area, but only blank white paper is affected. The dust jacket is in a protective sleeve.
