4y087 LOT OF 4 MAGAZINES FROM VANITY FAIR '90s-00s Madonna, Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck & more!

Date Sold 12/31/2013

a lot of 4 issues of Vanity Fair, the magazine that launched its American edition in 1913 (there had been an English magazine of the same name for decades, but it is unclear if the two were connected), and it swiftly became a companion magazine to Vogue, in appealing to rich sophisticated consumers, with articles by the top literary talents of the day including Dorothy Parker, Robert E. Sherwood, and Robert Benchley. The magazine had more advertising pages than any other magazine of its time, often for the most expensive companies. In the 1920s, it competed with the New Yorker for the best authors, but in the early 1930s, The Great Depression cut drastically into its advertising, and in 1935, it was canceled and merged with Vogue. But each issue is filled with interesting articles and some of the coolest ads you will ever see! Note that the items in this lot are from the 1990s to the 2000s.
