An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Beau Geste, the 1926 Herbert Brenon silent French Foreign Legion military family relationship action adventure war thriller ("From the novel by Percival C. Wren"; about an Englishman who leaves England in disgrace and joins the French Foreign Legion, where his two brothers are serving, and they must deal with a sadistic sergeant and murderous Arabs) starring Ronald Colman (in the title role as Michael 'Beau' Geste; "By arrangement with Samuel Goldwyn"), Alice Joyce, Neil Hamilton (as Digby Geste), Noah Beery Sr. (as Sgt. Lejaune), Mary Brian, William Powell (as the Arab, Boldini!), Norman Trevor, Ralph Forbes (as John Geste), and Victor McLaglen. Note that this movie was remade in 1939, with Gary Cooper, Ray Milland, and Robert Preston as the three brothers, and Brian Donlevy as the sadistic sergeant. The card had pinholes, creases, tears, and some areas of paper loss around the edges of the card and many creases, smudges, scuffs, and pinholes scattered throughout the image. Overall, the card was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was well backed by a talented restorer, who did not touch up many of the smudges and scuffs (and I agree with that decision, because to do so would have required lots of paint, which would have given the card a "heavily restored" look, and I don't feel the smudges and scuffs are all that distracting, and they help establish that this is a genuine 82 year-old original window card!). Obviously, one would prefer to find an example of this window card that had no defects or restoration, but I do not know if another example of this card exists (or if it does, if the owner would consider parting with it!). The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
