Date Sold 8/30/2007Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Campaign Book, sometimes referred to as Studio Yearbook (measures 10 3/4" x 13 1/2"; 34 pages; also included are two issues of "Monogram Co-Operator" with 4 pages each) (Learn More) Monogram Pictures 1934/35 campaign book, sent to theater owners to encourage them to show Monogram movies. The book includes 34 pages with one and two-page spreads on Monogram's upcoming movies. Some of the movies listed include "Girl of the Limberlost", "Great God Gold", "Redhead", "The Nut Farm", "The Mystery Man", "The Hoosier Schoolmaster", "Mysterious Mr. Wong", "The Million Dollar Baby", "The Healer", and many more! Note that, because Monogram at this time did not have the biggest name stars, they had several movies planned with very lurid and sensational material, and they created images for this campaign book that are both extremely colorful and often downright sexy! We have included images of the cover of the book and seven of the two-page spreads (and we did not make a big effort to find the best ones!). Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Note that some of the movies listed in this book may never have been made at all, and some had their titles changed, and some had their cast or director changed! Note that studios almost always spent far more money preparing campaign books than they did preparing movie posters (often hiring very talented and well-known illustration artists), because campaign books directly benefited the studio in getting theaters to book the movies, whereas posters more benefited the theaters, rather than the studios (although of course, what was good for the theaters was ultimately good for the studios as well). Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars! Important Added Info: Note that included with this campaign book are two extremely rare issues of the "Monogram Co-Operator" magazine (issue 9 and issue 10). This was a four-page magazine that was sent to theaters that regularly booked Monogram movies. I have never seen an issue of this magazine before! Also note that this is one of an excellent collection of nine extremely scarce studio campaign books we are selling this week on eBay (in nine separate auctions). Even though these are books that have sold for hundreds of dollars in the past, all begin with 99 cents with no reserve on any of them! Condition: very good. The book is generally in pretty good condition. There are scuffs and stains on the front and back covers, more so around the edges. There is pencil writing over most of the title page of the book, where a theater owner clearly took notes about which movies to order, with notes about the movies (some people might consider this a significant defect, but I think it is a pretty cool addition, especially since it is only on the title page. The other interior pages are generally in pretty nice condition. There are no cut outs or pages missing (campaign books are often found with missing pages, because theater owners would tear out pages to remind them to book the movie, and sometimes collectors took pages out of these books). One of the two issues of the "Co-Operator" magazine is in really nice condition and the other is stained along the extreme top edge. Learn More about condition grades
