An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Style Z Thirty by Forty Movie Poster (30x40; measures 30" x 40" [76 x 102 cm]) (Learn More) Some Like It Hot, the classic 1959 Billy Wilder (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) romantic musical cross-dressing drag crime comedy ("Hot!!!"; about two out of work musicians who happen to witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, and they need to leave town in a hurry, but the only jobs they can get is with an all-girl band, and they dress in drag, and one of the band members is Marilyn Monroe!) starring Marilyn Monroe ("and her bosom companions"), Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), George Raft, Pat O'Brien, and Joe E. Brown (the great star of 1920s and 1930s slapstick comedy, who practically steals this movie with a wonderful comic performance and an unforgettable final line!) Important Added Info: Note that this is an incredibly rare poster (completely unlike the one-sheet, it has an image of Marilyn with a large "HOT" behind her that is on the style A half-sheet, but it is not the same on the half-sheet as it is on this poster, and the word "HOT" is different too). We have only auctioned it once before, and that was seven years ago! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Prior to paperbacking, the poster had faded, with the reds in the poster changing to an orange or pink, and in some places disappearing altogether. It also had many creases and smudges scattered throughout and pinholes and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was well backed by a talented professional. They did not address the fading or the faint smudging scattered throughout, because that would have required putting a lot of paint on the poster. But the poster now displays well from a reasonable viewing distance, and if a person did not know it was faded, they might well not realize it. Of course, one could choose to have a restorer return the poster to how it originally looked, but this would mean much restoration, so personally, I would prefer to leave it just as it is.
