An Original Vintage Autographed Benefit Show Program (measures 7 1/4" x 10 1/4" [18 x 26 cm]; 12 pages) (Learn More)

Israel Orphan Asylum Benefit, the 1951 benefit show held at Madison Square Garden on March 26th to raise money for the Israel Orphan Asylum in Far Rockaway, New York. This was an event done in the memory of Gustave Hartman, who had founded the Israel Orphan Asylum in 1921, and then died in 1936. It was continued after his passing by his wife and others, and on March 26, 1951, they held this benefit at Madison Square Garden that was attended by 20,000 people, among them some of the most famous Jewish (and a few non-Jewish) celebrities of that time, including Phil Silvers, Jan Murray, Maxie Rosenblum, Milton Berle, Sam Levinson, Gloria Swanson, Fannie Hurst, Buddy Rogers, Vivian Blaine, "and many other stars".
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this program from this event has been personally autographed (signed) on the cover by NINE people: Gloria Swanson, Phil Silvers, Robert Alda, Buddy Rogers, Jules Munshin, Red Buttons, Jan Bart, and there are two signatures we cannot read. If anyone knows who else signed this program, please e-mail us and we will post it here. The autographs were obtained by someone who attended the event. Our consignor purchased this from a reputable book dealer, but they do not have a certificate of authenticity (but we would be amazed if all the autographs were not genuine).

Condition: very good.
