An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card #12 (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

For the Freedom of the World, the 1917 Romaine Fielding silent France World War I (WWI) patriotic romantic melodrama ("The screens greatest patriotic drama"; from the story "By Captain Edwin Bower Hesser") starring E.K. Lincoln (billed as "Edward Klink Lincoln"), Barbara Castleton, Romaine Fielding, Neil Moran, and June Adler. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Also note that if the name Edwin Bower Hesser seems familiar to you, it is because he was one of Hollywood's foremost photographers throughout the 1920s. He had a major career before that, including serving in World War I and being an actor, director, and screenwriter (of this movie, and one other), and he also managed a major theater in New York City, among other accomplishments. After the war, he decided to follow his true love, which was photography, which he had studied at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1910. He wanted to follow in the footsteps of Alfred Cheney Johnston, who specialized in nude portraits, and Hesser did the same, but also photographed hundreds of major Hollywood actors and actresses. Perhaps one day a movie would be made of his life!
