An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Italian One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27 3/4" x 39 1/4" [70 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) The Great John L., the 1945 Frank Tuttle boxing sports biographical romantic melodrama ("When Crosby, Hope and Sinatra agree... It's marvelous entertainment for Everybody!"; "Bing says: Great! Bob says: Ter-rif! Frankie says: a Wow!"; "The fabulous story of the Boston Strong Boy"; "You'll get a BANG out of the story of the Boston Strong Boy"; "Original Screen Play by James Edward Grant"; produced in part by Bing Crosby!) starring Linda Darnell, Barbara Britton, Greg McClure (in the title role; billed as "Introducing Greg McClure as John L. Sullivan"), Otto Kruger, Wallace Ford, George Mathews, Robert Barrat, Lee Sullivan ("as 'Mickey'"), Rory Calhoun, and Fritz Feld. Note that actor Greg McClure was billed as "introducing" in this movie, but actually he had appeared in a bunch of uncredited roles prior to it. He appeared in a couple more movies with billed parts and then quickly slipped back into complete obscurity, and we could find no information about him on the Internet. If anyone knows more about this actor and what happened to him, please e-mail us and we will post it here. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Nad Important Added Info: Note that this Italian one-sheet measures 27 3/4" x 39 1/4" [70 x 100 cm]. It surely is from the first Italian release, but whether that was 1945 or a year or two later, we don't know for certain. Note that this movie had a really terrible ad campaign in the U.S. that did not stress the boxing element at all, and none of the posters are very good. However, this Italian one-sheet has a really great artwork image! Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a thin strip of paper loss in the vertical foldline starting 4" above the crossfold and ending 4" below (it is wider at the center and narrower at each end). Otherwise, there was separation and a few tiny tears on the folds and minor border wear. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
