eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 2t246 SANJURO Japanese 15x20 1962 Akira Kurosawa's Tsubaki Sanjuro, samurai Toshiro Mifune! Date Sold 12/12/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Japanese "B3" or "Nakazuri" Movie Poster (14x20; measures 14 3/4" x 20" [37 x 51 cm]) (Learn More) Tsubaki Sanjuro (released in the U.S. in 1963 as "Akira Kurosawa's Sanjuro"), the 1962 Akira Kurosawa Japanese samurai martial arts action adventure thriller sequel ("A fast sword, keen perception used well to Slaughter His Enemies"; "Toho Production in TohoScope") starring Toshiro Mifune (in the title role as Sanjuro Tsubaki), Tatsuya Nakadai, Takashi Shimura, Reiko Dan, Keiju Kobayashi, Yuzo Kayama, and Akihiko Hirata. Note that this movie was a sort of sequel to Kurosawa's 1961 movie, "Yojimbo", with Mifune again playing a ronin, but with a different name (and again, he is a somewhat tarnished hero). Also note that this well regarded Akira Kurosawa Japanese movie surprisingly only received a limited first release in the U.S., and movie paper from that U.S. release is incredibly rare, for unknown reasons. It also apparently had a limited first release in all other English-speaking countries, again for unknown reasons. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned two first release Japanese export posters, but this is the first non-export Japanese poster we have auctioned for this classic movie, and it is a "country of origin" poster for this Japanese movie! Also note that this Japanese B3 poster measures 14 3/4" x 20" [37 x 51 cm]. Finally, note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The poster was folded down the middle and twice across the middle, 1/2" apart. The poster has a second vertical fold 1" to the left of the regular one, and another horizontal fold 1" from the top of the poster. There was once a snipe glued to the back of the top, and it was removed, causing surface paper loss across that area, and some tiny bits of actual paper loss. This is noticeable from the front of the poster, and someone did some slight restoration to that area (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
