An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 40 1/2" [69 x 103 cm]) (Learn More)

Curlew Corliss, the 1916 William Bertram silent cowboy western short ("The first of the famous 'Happy Family' stories by the celebrated author B.M. Bower"; "In 3 Acts") starring Art Acord ("in leading role" as Curlew Corliss), Nita Davis, John Gough, Dixie Stratton, and Lawrence Peyton. Note that B-western fans likely remember the name "Art Acord" as someone who starred in some silent westerns, but he is a fascinating figure in the history of western movies, who is sadly almost completely forgotten today. He was born in 1890, and in 1909, he worked as a stuntman in some westerns, and in 1912, he won the World Championship Steer Bulldogging title (four years later, he would win it again, defeating Hoot Gibson). He appears in many movies in the 1910s (serving in World War I as well!), and he appeared in a total of 112 movies by 1929, all silent. In 1931, he was found dead in Chihuahua, Mexico at the age of 40. His death was ruled a suicide, but there are rumors he was killed by a Mexican politician who caught Acord with his wife! It is likely because he did not live to make any sound movies that he is so forgotten today, but certainly a fascinating movie of his life could be made (perhaps with Johnny Depp?)!

Important Added Info: The poster was placed on to a very thin linen backing shortly after being printed. The purpose was to reinforce the poster, so that it would survive, when it was passed from theater to theater, and when it was put up on walls and taken down. Such posters can be professionally removed from the original linen and placed on to a proper linen backing. I have done this to several such posters, and they end up looking wonderful! Also note that this one-sheet measures 27" x 40 1/2" [69 x 103 cm].

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster was solely backed onto a thin linen after it was created and folded in the regular way (see above). It has paper loss in the top left corner, but fortunately, it is an area that would be easily recreated (see our image). It has water stains in the bottom left corners and darkening in the top center. There are some pinholes scattered through the poster and some smudges and dot stains in parts of the image. All of these defects are the sort that respond well to restoration. After the poster is removed from the thin linen and linenbacked in the normal way by a talented professional, the poster will look fantastic, and will require little paint restoration.
