An Autographed Letter (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]; 7 pages) (Learn More) Wiard Ihnen was an art director from the 1910s to the 1960s. He won Academy Awards for Best Art Direction for Wilson and Blood On the Sun, and he was the art director on Stagecoach, Duck Soup, Jane Eyre, and scores of others, and he was married to Edith Head. He also was an architect and interior designer at the American Institute of Architects. He passed away in 1979 at the age of 81. Important Added Info: Note that this 7-page letter has been entirely handwritten and personally autographed (signed) by Wiard Ihnen (he also added a postscript and wrote his initials on that)! It was written to an author in response to a number of questions about his career, and he was extremely candid in his feelings! For example, he talks about Jane Eyre and he says that he was "astonished to learn that Bill Pereira got credit" on the movie (as production designer). He adds that Pereira "had some kind of contract with Selznick" and that he (Ihnen) "was the sole and only designer" and it was entirely his concept!
